太空人隊已連8季勝率沒過5成，去年找到遊騎兵在美聯西區當墊背。小市場留不住大咖的太空人，難得季外補強力道更甚過往。40歲的新教頭辛屈本季將帶領囊括去年美聯打擊王、安打王與盜壘王的168公分「小巨人」艾爾圖維等一票年輕人，力拚勝率5成大關。
太空人的先發投手群其實還頗有看頭。本季預期仍會由老資歷的費德曼（上季8勝12敗、自責分率3.74）帶頭；27歲的左投庫凱爾上季投出生涯年，在弱隊還能有12勝9敗、自責分率2.93、投球局數200局的上乘戰績，本季他會是太空人的指標人物。
大聯盟3年級生麥克修去年也投出生涯新高，11勝9敗，尤其自責分率2.74夠漂亮。庫凱爾、邁克修、歐柏侯瑟、前年在運動家隊有10勝的史崔利，這4位年輕人可讓先發輪值更有活力。
太空人去年若非後援投手群爛透，牛棚自責分率4.80、救援失敗26次都是大聯盟最糟，他們的戰績應該還能更好。
球團有心在這個環節補強，找來上季於紅雀投出25個中繼點、自責分率1.87的尼謝克，去年在運動家22個中繼點、自責分率2.12的葛瑞格生等，來與終結者夸爾斯搭配。
太空人去年團隊打擊率.242、被三振1442次都是美聯最差，還好有艾爾圖維演出「來自外星」的神奇，讓該隊至少有可拿來炫耀的球星，而團隊全壘打163支美聯第3也很特別。
太空人最大的攻守補強就是以3位潛力球員從勇士隊換來年產20轟的強打捕手蓋提斯。此外，攻守皆不賴的游擊手羅瑞重返休士頓，過去3年為藍鳥敲出63轟的外野手拉斯莫斯，這些好手將有助太空人攻、防升級。
球團以40歲的辛屈當主帥也是賭注。他2009至2010球季曾擔任響尾蛇總教練，戰績89勝123敗，7年大聯盟球員生涯遊走多隊當替補捕手。
